Philip Stephen will decreed five children William, Thomas, Catherine, Jane and Christian Stephen

 joint administrators. 

Thomas, Jane, and Christian being under age. Christian Stephen was dead when the property 

was divided 27 Jan 1789. 

John Kelly husband of Catherine acknowledged receipt of share of goods which fell due to his wife 

by the death of  Philip Stephen his father in law and by the death of Christian Stephen his sister 

in law who died in her minority.

n the one part and Jane, wife of said William Steven and her daughter Catherine McYlecarane on the other part. 

It is agreed between the said parties that said Philip Steven said Catherine McYlecarane shall enter Matrimony 

within one month after date of these articles.

Signed William Steven and Jane Steven als McYlecarane, Philip Steven and Catherine McYlecarane.

Objection was made by John McYlecarane, son of Jane Steven als. McYlecarane decease by a former husband. 

Said John McYlecarane agreed in court with Philip Steven husband of Catherine McYlecarane sister to the said 

John MeYlecarane to accept 30 shillings.

No marriage on 1992 fiche. John ~ will lists brother in law

 

Phil Stephens have not been able to tie him into family yet. Why would his wife Margaret Stephen's brother handle 

his father's will?  More research needed on Philip Stephen's involvernent in this family. She is the only daughter 

for a brother-in-law?

Ballaugh. At a Chapter Court holden at KK. Michael May 21st 1778

Philip Stephen departed this life on or about 27th day of March last past Intestate. The Court upon Intelligence

thereof hath Decreed his five Children namely Wm. Thos. Cath. Jane & Christian Stephen joint admors of all his

Goods and Chattels moveable & immovable whatever. Wm. & Cath. aforesd being of age but of too tender years

to undertake the Burden of the administration of the sd. Intestate's Effects & the sd. Thos. Jane & Christian being

under age, and the sd. Wm & Catharine having in open Court relinquished & surrendered the Burthen of the

sd. Admin. to their uncle by their Father's side namely Wm. Stephen - he the sd. Wm. Stephen is thereupon sworn

well & truly to administer the Goods of the Intestate, to pay all his just Debts so far forth as the sd. Goods will

extend & the law shall bind him, to return a perfect Inventory to the Registry as also to be accountable for his Admin.

when thereunto required. and to these ends hath given Pledges in form of Law namely John Corlen and John Clarke

both of the Parish of Ballaugh.

The sd. Wm. Corlen the admor in Trust is also sworn Guardian & Supervisor of the Intestate's children who are under

age & hath the???? part of them and their Goods comrnitted to his Tuition (?) by Consent of Wm & Cath. aforesd.

Cath. Stephen the Widow is sworn to render ajust acct. of the Effects of her sd. deed Husbd

An Inventory of the Goods and Effects of Philip Stephan of the Ballamooar in Sd Parish who departed this Life

on or about the 26th day of March said year Interstate, as appraised by four sworn men, viz. etc etc

At a Consistory Court holden at Kk MicH. Jany 27th. 1780. Returned by Wm Stephen the Admor in Trust

[There followed a statement of the share of the estate and noted that Christian had died in the meantime

30th April 17?? John Kelly husband of Catharine within named acknowledges to have received from Wm Stephen

the sd. Admor. in Trust the share of the Goods and Effects that fell due to his wife aforesaid as well by the death

of Philip Stephen his father in law as by the death of Christian Stephen his sister in law who died in her minority etc etc

Note -

John Kelly married Catharine Stephen on 22 April 1786 at Ballaugh.
