ARTICLES OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN THOMAS MCYLECHARANE AND JANE

CALLOW 1719:

Articles of Marriage condescended and agreed upon by and betwixt

Margarett McYlecharane alias Kindred and William Mcylecharane,

both of Jurby, Mother and brother to Thomas McYlecharane for and in

behalf of the said Thomas McYlecharane on the one part and William Callow of

Bailneskeig in the parish of KK Maughold for and in behalf of his

daughter Jane Callow on ye other part as followeth:

The said young couple Thomas McYlecharane and Jane Callow is to

enter into the Holy Estate of Matrimony all or before the first day of

December next ensuing the date hereof if God and Holy Church permit.

2ndly the abovesaid Margaret McYlecharane doth hereby settle upon

the young couple after her decease all the lands that she gave

consent to in her husband's last will as appears by the said will and also her

whole right title or interest in or to apparel] of intack land,

commonly called and known by the name of Cloase ey Kyssage situated in Jurby

parish and all the said lands is to full and defend as inheritance for ever

after and also she gives them all the whole crop ye belongs to her and all

this after her decease and in case she dyes in winter halfs years all

the time of keeping their cattle in their houses yet then the said young

couple is taking her cattle and their own cattle until such time as their

own beat goes to the crop and also the question all materials belonging to

husbandry after her decease as before for and in consideration of

all this the said young couple doth oblige themselves to pay or cause to

be paid after he rdecease when they enter in possess of the Close ey

Kyssage the

sum of thirteen pounds sterling money ---whomsoever --- the said

Margaret Mcylecharane's will be pleased to bequeath the same to

--- her last will.

William McYlecharane whose father left him part of his aforesaid

lands for his maintenance during the course of his natural life doth

hereby bind and oblige himself to deliver the said lands into the said young

couples hands and management during his lifetime and also after his

decease all his part of the said lands is to fall and descend to the said

couple or their heirs as to fall and defend ---inheritance and --- the said

young couple obliging themselves to maintaining during his natural

life and of Close ey Kyssage in the same

4thly (no Thirdly) the said William Callow doth hereby endow and

settle upon the young couple the full and just sum of twe]ve pounds

sterling money. The one half thereof to be paid when the said young couple

is married a twelve month and a day and the other half thereof to be

paid within three years time after as they have occasion to call for

the same ye said couple acquitting and discharging him for all the money

and goods due to the said Jane Callow his daughter by her mother's

decease.

5thly and lastly for the time and faithful performance of all and

singular the above artles and agreement, all parties hath caused the same

to be with to bound themselves each to the other in y penalty or

forfeiture of sixteen pounds sterling to be paid in the nature of all other

fines and forfeitures and in testimony whereof have hereunto sett their

hands and seals this 11th of November 1719.

The last will and testament of Thomas McYlcarrane of the Curraugh

who departed this life upon the 14th of this instant month being of

perfect memory at the makeing thereof

FIRST: He bequeathed to his three youngest children viz Catherine,

Thomas, and John forty shillings each he left his part of the

lands to his beloved wife until his eldest son William would arrive to the

age of 21 years and then the said lands together with half the crop to his

said son William free and debtless he nominated his said son William and

Edward Callows of Balnaskeg overseers of his children and left twelve

pence a piece legacy to the witnesses of his will.

LASTLY He constituted and appointed his said beloved wife Jane

Mcylcarrane als Callows sole executrix of all the rest of his

goods moveable and immoveable whatsoever.

bequeathed unto him by his said father - and hereby acquits and discharges

his said mother and all others of the same.

The last will and testament of William Mcylecarane of KK Christ

Lezair who departed this life about the beginning of this month February

7, 1755 and was in perfect mind and memory at the making hereof four

days before his death. First he comitted his soul to God and body to Christian burial.

Item - He left and bequeathed to each of his children fourty

shillings and to his boy or son Thomas he left - when he arrived at twenty one

years of age his choice of either the said fourty shillings or half the

crop and husbandry gears that shall be at that time upon the premises.

Item H left to his cousin Edward Mylecarane half an heiffer of a

year old - this season vizt the least of he had of that age.

Item - He left all his lands to his loving wife untill his said

boy would be twenty one years of age towards the maintainace of the

children to whole tuition he left them, he left twelve pence to each of the

wittnesses of this his last will he constituted and appointed his

loving wife whole and sole executor of all the rest of his goods movable

and imovable whatsoever and appointed his brother in law Philip

Steven of Ballaugh and Steven Kneale of said parish overseers of his

children.

Articles of Marriage between William Steven of BallaMoar in

parish of Ballaugh and his son Philip Steven on the one part and Jane, wife

of said William Steven and her daughter Catherine Mcylecarane on the

other part.

It is agreed between the said parties that said Philip Steven said

Catherine Mcylecarane shall enter Matrimony within one month after

date of these articles.

Signed William Steven and Jane Steven als McYlecarane, Philip

Steven and Catherine Mcylecarane.

Objection was made by John McY]ecarane, son of Jane Steven als.

McYlecarane decease by a former husband. Said John McYlecarane

agreed in court with Philip Steven husband of Catherine McYlecarane

sister to the said John McYlecarane to accept 30 shillings.

No marriage on 1992 fiche. John Mcylecarane's will lists brother

in law Phil Stephens have not been able to tie him into family]y yet. Why

would his wife Margaret Stephents brother handle his father's will????

More research needed on Philip Stephen's involvement in this family.

She is the only daughter for a brother-in-law?

witnesses hereof being of sound mind memory at the making hereof.

Secondly He left to his eldest daughter Margaret John Quayles

wife one guinea.

He left to his eldest son John Mylecharane one guinea

.Me left to his son Thos Mylecharane who being now resident of

the town of Douglas one guinea.

He left to his daughter Ann Mylecharane forty pounds.

arrives to the age of twenty years.

goods houses and lands my right and tytle of same chattels moveable and

immoveable of what nature or denomination soever.
