ARTICLES OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN WILLIAM CORLETT AND ISSABLE

MCYLECARANE: Articles of Marriage agreed and concluded upon by and

betwixt Catherine Curlett in ye behalfe of her son William

Curlett on ye one part and Margaret McYlecarane als Kindred in yle behalfe of

her daughter Issable on ye other part as follows: It is agreed upon

ye said young couple shall enter into the Holy Estate of Matrimony at or

soon after ye 12th day of this month.

It is agreed and concluded upon and ye above said Catherine

Curlett als Kaneen doth hereby find and oblige herselfe to give and settle

upon her said son all her part of ye land wherein they now dwell, from ye

houses noithward to McYlecharanes land and also for her part of a field

under Kneen's clefe lying in ICK andreas, the said William to be

possess of them after her decease and not before. all ye above said lands are to

pass as heirship for ye future by ye consent of parties.

The above Margaret McYlecharane in consideration of ye aforesaid

doth hereby oblige herself to give in dowry to and with her aforesaid

daughster Issable seventeen pounds sterling to be paid her wholey

over and above what goods and due to ye Issable by her fatherts

decease, ye foresaid June of 17th to be paid on timely within the term or

space of four years after ye date of these

Lastly for a better performance of all and singular I promise all

parties concerned do hereby find themselves heirs and executors in ye

penalty and forfeiture of one hundred pounds sterling in the nature of

all other fines in this Isle in further testimony hereof they have herewith

sett their names and marks ffiis third day of February 1717.

The last will and testament of Isabel Corlett als Mylecarane of

the parish of KK Christ Lezayre being in sound mind and memory at the

making hereof sometime before her decease in the month of Feb

1765 are as follows:

FIRST: She committed her soul to God and her body to Christian

burial.

ITEM: She left and bequeathed to her neece Margaret Cowley --pounds

three firlets of meal corn, two canvases and hemp as would be a

couple of sacks or all her share the hemp in the house and also of the

of the place - a house room and garden in Close E Kewnney if she

remains unmarried during her natural life and after her decease said

house room and garden to fall and decend to John Corlet the testatrix's son.

ITEM: She left and bequeathed to Stephen cloaths yards of

pladding.

ITEM: She left and bequeathed to Philip Stephen's wife of Ballaugh

a Blanket with a

ITEM: She left to Alice Cleater thirty shillings.

ITEM: She left to John Cleater brother to said Alice twenty

shillings.

ITEM: She left to Cathr Cleater sister to said John a blanket.

ITEM: She left to Cathr Cowley of---daughter to Wm Cowley a white

sort of gown and a petticoat.

ITEM: She left to Ann McYlcarrane a gown.

ITEM: She left to the two daughters of Wm Mcylecarane namely Ann a

gown and Jane a mantle.

ITEM: She left and bequeathed to Sulby School ten pounds four

pounds of said ten pounds to be paid by John Cowley(---- and if in case he

pays the said sum of four pounds quietly and without any lawsuit he the

said John Cowley is not to be sworn for any money in his hands but if

he opposes and refuses then and in that case he is to be sworn for

all.

ITEM: She left to Alice Cleater a gown and a choice suit of head

cloths.

ITEM: She left to Margaret Cowley her neece all the rest of her

shaped linnin and woolen apparel.

ITEM: She left to her son John Corlet the sum of sixty pounds

during his natural life but if in case her said son dies without issue then

the said sum of sixty pounds to fall and descend to the testatrixes next

of kin but if her said son hath any issue that will arrive to the age of

fourteen or sixteen years then the said sum of sixty pounds to be equally

between them and they to will or devise it to whom they please.

ITEM: She left to John MeYlecharane of Coan Bier in Ballaugh a

blanket.

ITEM: She declared that no person should be sworn for her goods and

effects and that John Corlett her son and Margaret Cowley her

neece shall abide and rest satisfied by this her last will and testament

otherwise to be barred out with five pounds a piece as their

legacies.

ITEM: She left to John C]eater of Jurby ten shillings.

AND LASTLY She nominated constituted and apointed her son John

Corlett whole and sole executor of all the rest of her goods and effects

moveable and immoveable of what kind or nature soever - And to

the witnesses of her will one shilling and nine pence each.

WITNESSES: Robert Christian and Robert Curphey.

At a Chapter Court holden at KK Michael June 14th 1765: John

Corlet is sworn executor in court in form of law and has given pledges for

payment of debts and legacies according to law namely Robt

Christian and Robt Cuiphey the witnesses of the will.

11th Mar 1766 Edward McYlecarane enters a claim against the

executor of Isabel Corlet alis Mcylecarane for the sum of 6 SH 5p and

craves the law. KK Michael March 21st 1766 -

The claimer having proved the sum of six shillings and five pence

the like sum being due the claimer by thedecedent's son ordered the

same be discharged with all fines to the Sumner of Lezayre who if

disobeyed is to apply for a soldier, Matths Curghey.

2lth Feb 1766 Alice Cleater enters a claim against the executor

of

Isabel Corlet also McYlecarane for the sum of 2 lbs and craves

the law.

At Ballaugh 10th May 1766. The claimer having proved the sum of

one pound two shillings ordered that the same be discharged sub

with all fees. Matths Curghey.

Received from John Cowley (Soal) the sum of one pound and seven

shillings with attending fees being one shilling and five pence

being the sum mentioned in an order bearing date the 14 of June as also for

a legacy left and bequeathed by Isabel Corlet alias McYlecarane on

him to pay towards the school of Sulby in Lezaire parish and say

received by the pursuant to said order this 17th Day of April  1766 Ewan Crow

junior of Lezayre.
