Esther Sophia Craine, grew up and attended schools in the Hillsboro, North Dakota area.  She then moved to the Twin Cities and worked there as a seamstress.

She married Gerald Kenneth Craine and moved to Little Falls, Minnesota in the early 1930's and lived there until returning to the Twin Cities in the early 1940's.

In 1968 she moved to the Swatara/Hill City area and had resided there until her death.

        She was an avid gardener.

I remember her as a hard working-no nonsense lady,  with a warm and generous nature.

My grandmother also worked at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis for many years.

Big sugar cookies, the smell of lutefisk, lefsa rolled with butter and sugar at christmas; an aluminum christmas tree that changed color with a multi colored electric machine.  She would use the expression "Give me a smooch"  when it was time to leave.  A Nancy Drew mystery book at Christmas.

Passed her drivers test after my grandfathers death in 1977, at the age of 72, bought a small car and would travel to Little Falls to visit relatives as well as around town.

Uncle Dennis built her a small log cabin home on the property where the farm sits and she would work at her vegetable garden.  (Granddaughter Marilyn)

"Sophia" comes from her parents good friends the Houglands, there daughter was named Sophia.
