The name Mylecharane is supposedly derived from "Mallachi Ryans"
an Irish name of course, which is said to have meant "son of Ryans."
In the time of Cromwell, they are supposed to have been chased out of
Ireland and fled to the Isle of Man, taking with them a jeweled silver cross
which is in a museum on the island today.
