Four
Nevada educators are being recognized nationally for their contributions
to teaching math and science.
The state winners of the Presidential
Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching are Janet Jones
Irsfeld of Kim Elementary School in Las Vegas; Eric Anderson of Las Vegas
Academy high school; Dawn Marie Alexander of Smith Elementary School in
Reno; and David Thiel of Green Valley High School in Henderson.
The teachers will be honored during
an all expense-paid trip in May to Washington, where they will be guests
of the White House. In addition to the trip and ceremonies, the winners
will receive $7,500 grants to be used to improve math and science
programs at their schools.
The annual awards program is sponsored
by the National Science Teachers Association and the National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics.
