My gr. grandfather was MIHALY DEMETER born Szabolcs, Hungary, approx. year of birth 1870's. Parents, siblings unknown. He married MARIA VASZICSKU* year unknown, possibly late 1890's. Little is known of her, but we suspect her origins are Romanian. Mihaly and Maria were farmers in Nyirbeltek, Szabolcs. They were Greek Orthodox. They had seven children of which we know the oldest Mihaly born March 29, 1897, a brother Louis, and the youngest Elizabeth, born 1910 approx. I do not know when or how Mihaly and Maria died. My line is through Mihaly jr. aka. Mike. Please see bio on familytree page. Mihaly jr's spouse was JULIANNA PAPP born Dec. 22, 1897 in Encsencs, Szabolcs, Hungary. Her parents were SANDOR PAPP and ESZTER VADON, their birth, marriage, parents names unknown. They were wealthy farmers and Reformed Protestants in Encsencs. Julianna's siblings were Sandor, MARI VAJDA, and ZSUZSANNA JAKAB. Mihaly and Julianna Demeter had four children Andras aka Alec, Andrew, born Aug. 5th, 1922, Nyirbeltek, died July 6, 1999 Toronto, Canada. Please see bio on family tree page and Alec's Memorial page. Katherina born 1924, died shortly after of Diptheria, also two living sons. Mihaly and Julianna emigrated to Manitoba, Canada in 1928, eventually settling in Ontario and maintaining a winter residence in Miami, Florida, USA. Mihaly died August 17, 1973. Julianna died March 10, 1969. Buried Toronto, Canada with their son Andras. |
