Paul begins his letter to the Philippians with these words: “From Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:1).The word translated "servant"--doulos in Greek--means "slave." It expressed the basis of Paul’s ministry in Christ as well as the essential ingredient of his relationships. A slave belonged body and soul to the master. The slave’s purpose was to obey. The slave was the absolute possession of the master. This enabled a great relationship with Timothy and other workers and with the Philippians. Slaves relate on the level ground of a common bondage.

At First Baptist Church we long to be a breed of people that loves one another deeply, is committed to supporting one another, and is involved in tasks together that will constantly bring us into interdependence. We want to know more about Christ and one another so that we can improve the quality of our relationships.
