Emmit F. Chapman resided in Alexander County and enlisted
at Winchester, Virginia, in Company G on September 26, 1862, at the age
of 30. He was captured at or near Fort Sedman, Virginia, on March
25, 1865. He was confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until he took
the oath and was released on June 24, 1865. North Carolina pension
records indicate that he was wounded during an unknown battle. Private
Chapman is buried in the Three Forks Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander
County, North Carolina.
