Tracy (Intro, showing Kristi skating outdoors in a purple shirt and black pants): Along with Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hamill, Kristi Yamaguchi is considered one of America's female skating icon. We have seen her grow up before our very eyes into a mature person, on and off the ice. Soon, she will embark on another chapter in her life, a summer bride.Tracy: Kristi, what's your favorite Christmas memory?
Kristi: Well, I'd have to say that last Christmas was pretty special. My fiance and I got engaged last Christmas eve. It was a bit of a surprise, but... a good one.
Tracy: Were you outside, were you in the snow, under Christmas lights, or?
Kristi: Actually we were in San Francisco, and he had just flown in that morning, or that evening. And we went to dinner with my sister and my brother-in-law and then later on went to this place that has a really nice view of San Francisco and that is where he proposed.
Tracy: Now, Bret Hedican is your fiance, and he plays for the NHL, the Florida Panthers. You're on a 70 city tour, how do you manage to get together for Christmas?
Kristi: It's tough. He'll have maybe two or three days off and I'll have about the same. So, we'll try to manage - the last three years he's come to San Francisco; played the Sharks the day after. This year I think we're gonna try to make a trip out to Minnesota where his hometown and his family are, visit there and get on with the tour.
Tracy: Have you been away from your family at Christmas before?
Kristi: This will actually be my first year in 28 years away from family and parents. It will hard, but I think it's also a sign of a new generation starting as well. (Showing picture of Kristi and Bret here)
Tracy: He might even be up to get up and skate with em.
Kristi: We'll see (both laughing). There are a lot of great skating parties in Minnesota at Christmas-time, so uh, I'll have to bundle up though.
Tracy: Right now, your busy also as well as skating, planning your wedding. When are you getting married?
Kristi: Right now, we have July 8th as our date, and uh, so a lot of planning now, trying to do that before we both get too busy into our seasons. It's been a lot of fun so far.
Tracy: You're not planning to get married on the ice, in an arena?
Kristi: (Laughs) No - no ice. We're going to get as far away from ice as possible, and uh, probably head somewhere warm.
Jingle Bells now follows the interview..... Enjoy.
