I'm using up a bunch of remnants on the Fisher Price wardrobes--mostly things
for which I didn't have enough fabric for an 18" doll. I came to do a back-
opening blouse and didn't have enough fabric to do the collar on the pattern,
which was a wide turtleneck thing, cut on the bias.
I cut a piece of fabric on the straight, 1 1/2" wide and the length of the
part of the neckline where I wanted the collar, plus 1 inch for seam
allowances.
Stay-stitch and clip the neckline seam allowance before measuring. For a
larger AG doll, you might want to make your piece of fabric 2" wide.
Fold the fabric, narrow end to narrow end, and cut in half. Fold each half
long end to long end, right sides together. Stitch ends; clip corners next to
the fold. Turn, square out the corners, and press. Place the collar on the
right side of the blouse, abutting the two collar pieces at the center front;
baste to neckline. Finish with serger or bias binding or whatever your
preferred method may be.
By doing the fold, you eliminate the seam on the outside edge of the collar
and it is much easier to get the corners to square out nicely. By making a
straight collar, you eliminate all the fussing with getting the curves smooth
on a Peter Pan.
