In ancient Bible days, bread represented the "staff of life"--sustenance and nourishment. It was the mainstay at almost every meal. The Bible talks about many different kinds of breads:
- Unleavened Bread - A bread that was made without yeast (Exodus 12). This kind of bread represents holiness and purity.
- Shewbread - A small cake or loaf composed of flour and water, baked in shapes (either oblong or round), and about as thick as the thumb. These were not cut, but broken and were consecrated to the Lord every Sabbath. They were loaves of presentation (Matthew 12:4).
- The Bread of Life - Jesus is typified as the "Bread of Life" that came down from heaven. Jesus came to satisfy that deep soul hunger that is in each and every individual (John 6:35).
Just as the unleavened bread was pure without any mixture to defile it, so Christ, the Son of the Living God, lived and worked and carried out his life's mission without ever once having sinned or having sin enter into his life. He lived a holy and sinless life.
Just as the shewbread was made for consecration on the Sabbath, so Jesus, the Son of God, was consecrated from the Father to the world to be the spotless Lamb of God...to bear the sins of the world. As the shewbread was broken, so Christ was broken. His life poured out on Calvary so that you and I can have life and life more abundantly.
We at the Abundant Life Church of God also desire to be broken with our lives poured out for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is our sincere desire to be God's hand extended to a lost and hurting world. If we can be of any assistance to you, please contact the church office at 734-595-0011.
The Bread of Life Ministry will make sure that every family who visits Abundant Life Church will receive a homemade loaf of bread to thank them for coming to our services. We pray that our love for people will become evident through this ministry.
