Um-e-Aslam was a companion of the holy prophet (peace be upon him), Imam Ali (A-S), Ayema Hussnain (A-S) and Imam Sajjad (A-S). She was a researcher , narrator and a scholar who had studied all the divine books. She was given the title of "the one with the stones". History records names of 3 women who have been given this title.
In Kafi sheikh Kuleni writes that to see the prophet of the God (peace be upon him) Um-e-Aslam went to his wife Um-e-Salma's house. He was not at home so she waited for hem to return. When the prophet came she asked him: O, prophet of the God (peace be upon him) may my parents be your ransom. When I studied the divine books , I realized that every prophet has successors who introduce him to the people. Who is your successor (wasi). The prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) picked up a few stones and turned them soft like sand in his fist. With his finger ring , he pressed the seal of prophet hood on it and then said: My successor is the one who is capable of doing this now and after me. Um-e-Aslam says that to find this sign, I went first to Imam Ali's (A-S) house and then to her slave Mohajer bin Abi Muslim and her nephew, Mehmoood bin Mohammed. Traditions by Asma

Um-e-Ghanum was a bed bedouin from Yemen. She witnessed the eras of four Imams and after her death her descendants came to the Imams (A-S). Mahba bin Sult Naqiba bin Saman bin Ah bin um-e-Ghanum was one of her descendants who came to Imam Askari (A-S). Um-e-Ghanum came to Medina with her son and asked the residents of the city. Is there a man by the name Ali (A-S) among the Bani Hashim. She was given an address of Ali bin Abdullah bin Abbas. She visited this man and said to him: These are the stones on which the Prophet of God (Peace be upon him)< Imam Ali Murtaza (A-S), Imam Hassan (A-S), and Imam Hussain (A-S) have impressed their seals. I was informed by the holy Prophet an Imam named Ali (A-S) would impress his seal on it. I have come to your highness in connection with this affair. Ali bin Abdullah bin Abbas retorted: O, enemy of God! you have slandered the Prophet (Peace be upon him) , and Ali(A-S), and Hussain(A-S). Um-e-Ghanum recalls: Afterwards, he began swearing at me and having insulted and tortured me , snatched the stones from me. I returned in absolute depression. At night I saw Imam Hussain (A-S) in my dream who said: Take these stones and go to my son Ali(A-S) because he is your Imam. I found the stones in my hand when I woke up. With the stones I went to Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (A-S) right away who do not let any one know about this affair. Abu Hashim Jafri records: One day while I was sitting in the holy presence of Imam Hassan Askari (A-S) a tall and handsome man came and sought permission to enter. He said salam to Imam (A-S). Imam answered his salam and asked him to be seated. That man came and sat near me I thought I wish I knew that man. Imam Askari (A-S) turned to me and said: He is a descendant of Sahiba-tul-Hisat (one with the stones) an Arab woman (um-e-Ghanum) on whose stones my ancestors have impressed their seals. Later, Imam (A-S) said to him: Bring the stones. That man took out a few stones and presented them to Imam(A-S)Imam (A-S) softened them in his palm and impressed his seal on it. I saw "Hassan bin Ali" written on it. This tradition proues that the Prophet of God (Peace be upon him) and all the Imams (A-S) have impressed their seals on um-e-Ghanum stones. |

Describing the eminence of her personality, Sheikh toosi refers to her as a companion of the prophet of Islam(Peace be upon him) and a narrator of tradition. To define her greatness, it is enough to mention that whenever the prophet (peace be upon him) departed from Medina he went towards her house, rested a while there and had something to eat. Her husband Ebada bin Samet was also one of the prominent companions o f the holy prophet (peace be upon him). Ebada compiled the holy Qur'an during the era of the prophet (peace be upon him) and taught the holy Qur'an to the people of Safa. During the period of Umar bin Khatab , he was appointed a teacher of ahkam (commandments) in Palestine and Hums. Um-e-Haram narrates that one day , the prophet (peace be upon him) was asleep in our house. He was very pleased when he woke up. I asked the reason and he answered: In a dream , I saw a group of my companions, in a state of reverence and grandeur, riding a boat in the sea. Ume-e-Haram requested the holy prophet (peace be upon him) O' prophet of God , pray for me that I may also be included in that group .He (peace be upon him) replied : Um-e-Haram you are included in that group. Several years after this incident , in the year 27 hijra, the was of Qibris took place during the caliphate of Usman, To participate in the war , Abr Zar, Abu Durda, Ebada bin Samet and um-e-Haraam started off in a boat. Um-e-Haram was climbing out of the boat when it suddenly drifted away and she died by falling down. Thus, she attained the honor of shahadat (Martyrdom). |

Among the women during the initial years of Islam, due to her abundant worshipping, the wife of Hameed Saedi was given the encomium of Abida (worshipper). This pious woman came to the prophet of God (peace be upon hem) and stated : I want to join your namaz-e-jamaat (congregational prayers). The prophet peace be upon him) answered: I know that you are really keen on saying your nimaz (Islamic wajib prayers) behind me in a mosque. However, understand the fact that it is better for you to pray at home than to pray in a mosque and praying in your own room is better than praying elsewhere in the house, consequently, Um-e-Hameed got a small and dark room built in a corner of her room. For the rest of her life she offered her prayers in that room. Our traditions record that the sawab (spiritual reward) of a namaz offered at home by a woman is twenty five times more than the one offered in a jamaat. However, fuqaha (Islamic jurisprudence) explain that this tradition is not reliable and and what it really means is that it is better for a woman to offer her mamaz at home instead of going out to a mosque if she cannot guard herself against a namahram (not a close relative with whom marriage is islamically possible). Shaheed-e-dowam writes in his "Al-Daroos" that just lide the men for women also it is mustahabb(recommendatory) to pray in a mosque but it is better for them to stay at home. Contemporary fuqaha (Islamic jurisprudence) believe that it is better for a woman to go to the mosque if she can remain completely protected from the namahram. |

Um-e-Durda was a companion of the holy prophet( Peace be upon him) and a narrator of tradition. She has reported several traditions of the prophet (peace be upon hem) from her husband. Other followers like Memun bin Mehran, Safwan bin Abdullah and Zaid bin Aslam have narrated traditions from Um-e-Durda. His torians praise her sagacity and tremendous insight It was due to this capacity that she was able to acquire knowledge from the prophet of God (Peace be upon him) Traditions by the Um-e-Durda 1.Memoon bin Mehran relates: One day I asked Um-e-Duda: Do you remember a tradition of the prophet (peace be upon him) ? She answered : One day I went to see the prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him) and he said (When the deeds would be rated) no deed would weigh greater than good ethics. 2. When a person prays for his brother in his absence , his prayer is granted and the angels say : May you also receive what you have asked for your brother. Complaint against her husband Um-e-Durda was an intelligent woman herself but her husband , Abu Durda , went to the excessive extreme in worship and asceticism, He was criticized for this by everyone and Um-e-Durda , his wife, was also unhappy because he did not pay any attention to her rights and his obligation towards her. The prophet of the God (peace be upon him) had tied a knot of brotherhood between his companions Salman Farsi and Abu Durda were made brothers therefore to fulfill his duty as a brother whenever he had time Salman Farsi went to visit Abu Durda in his house. One day, Salman came to Abu Durda's house when he was absent he noticed that Um-e-Durda was troubled and appeared unwell. When asked her the reason, she replied: your brother doesn't pay any attention to me. During the day he fasts any spends the whole night in worship. A little later Abu Durda returned home. He welcomed Salman asked for food. when the food was served he moved away from it. Salman invited him to eat but he refused because he was keeping a recommendatory fast. Salman also abstained from eating. At night, when Abu Durda became to worship, Salman explained to him: you must rest and meet your other obligations. Protect your body, take care of your family and answer their needs because God has made all these tasks obligatory for you. Do not fast throughout the year but rather on important days. Graint yourself a little freedom. Offer your prayers but you must also sleep and rest. Most important of all mind the rights of other people. A sensible Muslim is the one who doesn't follow a monotony and refrains from indulging to extremes. A limit must be considered when act is performed and the right of other people should not be violated. |
