SCARF DAY

The month Safar and the year 1420, Constantly bombarded with pictures, photos and T.V accounts from the Western Media , the world is told that those women who wear the Islamic dress code of Hijab are second class citizens. This however is untrue. American values show that women should always look pretty and should only be there for the pleasure of men. Islam tells us to respect our women, for they are our mothers, sisters, daughters and wives, and the holy Prophet of Allah (SAW) showed us this himself with his love for Bibi Fatimah Zahra (SA).

The months of Moharram and Safar always see an band of believers who come to Imam Bargah's and mosques globally to mourn the martyrdom of our beloved Imam Hussain , his family and 72 of his faithful followers (may Allah bless them all with eternal peace). We all listen to what is recited and then return to our homes and our daily lives. How many of us actually listen and make a change to our own lives though? We hear of how Bibi Zainab (SA) and the daughters of Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (SA) suffered at the hands of Yazid and his army. We hear of the sacrifices they made so that today we can follow Islam truly and openly , but still many of us make things harder than they have to be.

"Scarf Day " was the first of its kind in the city of Manchester (Northwest England). It was guidance and encouragement for those who were scared to follow the right path. Alhamdolillah talking about Hijab and the importance of it created awareness amongst the young and old who had always been afraid about what others would say. But information and real guidance helped many overcome their fears and thus begin to struggle and fight in the way of Islam, just as we were shown more than 1300 years previously.

Taking the first steps to wearing hijab can be an extremely difficult task. "Scarf Day" was a day when people together made a conscious effort to change. Each person gave the other motivation and praise , and so when a group takes action it is much easier than one person trying to do it alone. And even if someone begins on their own , they should always take strength from Allah and know that they have the blessings of the ladies of paradise (PBUT).

Al hamdolillah about 20 girls and ladies made a promise to Allah on "Scarf Day" that they would try and keep up this holy jihaad.Insha Allah I pray that they have all continued this, for it will only benefit themselves. I pray also that Allah guides them in all aspects of their lives and protects them from all evil, just as Hijab protects women from the sins of this world from among the jinns and the men.
