March 29, 1999 Update:

News from Katie's last Checkup
Katie made her trip to Mayo Clinic on March 22nd for her scheduled checkup and follow up to check on the spots in her lung. We are happy to report, again, that there is no sign of growth in the spots (this means it is probably scar tissue from the last cancer).
However, Katie did recieve some "not so good" news also. The right side of her body is growing faster than the left side. The doctors say that this normally happens when the tumors are present in the body. They did NOT find any more tumors but this is a cause for great concern. They want to do surgery to stunt the growth of Katie's right side in order for the left side to catch up. The doctors have agreed to wait until Katie finishes this school year before subjecting her to the battery of tests and surgical proceedures she will need to get over this next hurdle. Katie is trying to be brave but the thought of more surgery and another hospital stay is frightening and she is, of course, very upset. She could sure use your prayers and well wishes to help prepare her for her ordeal in June.
Katie's birthday is April 7th. She will be 10 years old. Please join me in wishing her a happy birthday
