Samson


Sam is a most interesting cat, to be sure! He's certainly the oldest of all the cats we've ever had.

Born on April Fools Day in 1985, Sam and his brother, Jasper, were the two from the litter that we kept. Samson looked exactly like his mother, Blackie, solid black except for three white patches, two underneath her belly, and one in the center of her neck that if parted right was in the shape of a star. We gave Samson to our grandparents, who lived then a few seconds walk from our house. Everyone fell in love with him immediately.

Sam certainly isn't the easiest cat to live with! Maybe it's the old age starting to get to him! He lets everyone know when he's hungry by meowing very loudly until he his fed. The problem with this is that he usually wants to be fed more than his regular 3 times a day and is VERY picky about his food. He only likes a certain brand and certain flavors. He will eat nothing else, no matter how hungry he is. Sam is a very large cat, weighing close to 12 lbs. and has a beautiful shiny coat, even at his age. His age and size don't hinder him any, however, he is still able to catch the hummingbirds that we set feeders out for every year (much to our dismay). He also kills mice and snakes. Sam is a tough cat!

Sam is definitely a member of the family. None of us can ever remember not having him around. His favorite place to sleep is up in the under recesses of the pool table or curled up on Mo-Mo's lap when she has her blanket over her. He's quite the character, 'Ole Sam. He will even "talk" back to you! I've sat and had conversations with this cat! If you're talking to him or asking him a question, he will always "meow" a response to you. He's quite cocky, but we all love him and couldn't imagine life without him!
