I received the following e-mail from a new Norwood acquaintance on 16 October, 1998. This is more data to support the theory that the name Norwood may have been pronounced without the W in the second syllable. Thanks to Hugh for taking the time to share this tidbit from Yorkshire, England!

I had a look around the Norwood home pages yesterday and was interested in the article about pronunciation of the name, because a few miles north of where we live is a steep hill called Norwood Edge, pronounced by the locals as "Norrod Edge". When I first heard this, I put it down to the flat vowels of the Yorkshire accent, but the article would appear to justify it as a "correct" pronunciation.

Best wishes
