BERTHA TUNNELL Cox, Belhaven, Hyde County, NC; Funeral srvices for Mrs. Bertha Tunnell Cox of Belhaven were held at the Mount Olive Christian Church at Ponzer Wednesday morning, March 30, with the Rev. W.B. Armstrong officiating. Interment was in the curch cemetery. Mrs. Cox died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter B.F. Randolph in Norfolk last week. She had been ill for several months. Mrs. Alexander Dixon Tunnell and Annie Swindell Tunnell. She was a member of the Mount Olive Christian Church. Surviiving are two sons: Leonard M Cox, USN, Norfolk, VA and J. Dixon Cox of Belhaven; one daughter, Mrs. Walter B.F. Randolph of Norfolk; 5 grandchildren; on brother, Joseph L Tunnell of Swan Quarter; and three sisters: Mrs. Ephronr Spencer of Swan Quarter, Mrs. Una Jones of Washington, and Mrs. Ruby Watson of Swan Quarter. Pallbearers were Cleveland Smithwick, Felix Davis, Alonza Foreman, Staten Clayton, Ray Rhem, and Herbert Rhem. (From: The Hyde County Herald March 1949)

HEIDI HOLLAND Cox, Kill Devil Hills, Hyde Co, NC; Heidi Holland Cox, 21, died early Friday, September 4 as a result of an automobile accident near Stumpy Point. A native of Hyde County, she was born Oct 8 1976 in Belhaven. She was a graduate of Mattamuskeet School in the Class of 1994, an avid pet lover and worked at Charlotte's Web in Kill Devil Hills as a pet caregiver. She was a member of Middletown Christian Church. She is survived by her mother Maybell Holland Cox Stevens of Kill Devil Hills; her father, Joe Redden Cox, and her paternal grandmother, Nell Cox, both of Engelhard, Middletown community; and a sister Heather Cox Etheridge of Manteo. Funeral services were held at 11 am Monday in Middletown Christian Church. Scott Sukeforth officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter. HYLER JACKSON Cox, Engelhard, Hyde Co, NC; Hyler Jackson Cox, 66, of Route 1, Engelhard, died Oct 8 at his home. A native of Hyde County, he was the son of the late Otis Lee and Mary Selby Cox. He was a member of the Christian Church and a retired commercial fisherman and pork producer. Surviving are his wife, Millie Spencer Cox; two sons: H. Wayne Cox of Engelhard and Lyle S Cox of Bristol, Tenn; his step-mother, Mrs. Lula Mae Cox of Belhaven; a sister, Elsie C Ballance of Mt. Airy, MD, a half-brother, Jimmy Cox of Belhaven. Funeral services will be held, at 2pm Wednesday in the family plot at Fulford Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Renn officiating. The family suggests memorials may be made to Engelhard United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Don Hunter, Rt. 1, Engelhard, NC or a charity of choice. The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter 7 to 8:30 pm on Tuesday, and at other times at the home (From: The Coastland Times-Tuesday Nov 9,1990)

IONE BISHOP Cox, Belhaven, Hyde Co, NC; Ione Bishop Cox, 91, of Belhaven and more recently a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter, died Monday, July 10 at Cross Creek. Mrs. Cox was born in Hyde County, the daughter of the late Chrlie R and Lela Mae Jones Bishop. She worked for many years at Mrs. Padgett's store and The Grill in Pantego. She was the widow of Herman G Cox who died in 1973. Several cousins survive. Funeral services were at the gravesite in Soule Cemetery on Wednesday with Steve Bryan officiating.
