SAVING OF GUILFORD COLLEGE, NC, Isham Cox is remembered at Guilford College, NC. Isham Cox is the s/o William & Lydia Cox, h/o Lavina Brower. Isham Cox and others helped save the New Garden Boarding School (Later called Guilford College) by pledging their land and property against the debts of New Garden Boarding School after the Civil War and Isham was the secretary for a time.(Donated by Michael A Woody)

SETTLEMENT OF CINCINNATI, OH, Joseph Cox, (b. 1767 Sussex Co, NJ, d. June 27, 1842 Butler Co, OH) was one of 26 men and women who came with Major Benjamin Stites in the first boatload of settlers, mostly from New Jersey, that landed Nov 18, 1788 near turkey Bottom (Lunken Airpot) and began the first settlement of Cincinnati. Benjamin Cox was also in the group. A David Cox who bought land in Union Twp, Butler Co, OH in 1800 may have been part of the group also. These three may have been brothers. JAMESON COX, December 31, 1841 On Wednesday, 29th inst., Jameson COX, aged 56 years. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend his funeral this afternoon, at 3 o'clock, from his late residence, 356 Grand street. The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral, on Thursday afternoon, at 4 o'clock, from his late residence, No. 105 Forsyth street, without further invitation.(From: New York Herald)

JAMESON COX, January 16, 1849 On Monday afternoon, 15th inst., Jamieson, son of George A. and Rebecca Ann Cox, aged 11 months and 22 days. The friends of the family are requested to attend the funeral, from 230 Broome street, on Wednesday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, with further invitation.(From: New York Herald)

LORENZA DOWELL COX, Feb 28, 1923, L.D. Cox, a well known citizen of the Brasstown section of Oconee, died suddenly last Tuesday while eating dinner. Mr. Cox was reared in the section in which he died. For several years he resided near Westminister, and had many friends and acquaintances here who regret to learn of his death. He was generally known as "Nin" Cox. His father was the late Jas. Cox; his mother's maiden name was Thrift. His wife died several years ago. Mr. cox was 68 years of age. He leaves three sons, three daughters and several grandchildren. W. Stiles Cox of Westminister, is a son of the deceased. Interment was at Long Creek, in the presence of many sorrowing friends. I Abraham Cox of Fauquier County in the State of Virginia being weak in body but in his right mind and desirous to leave my Fortune which God has blessed me with in as much peace as may be, and that Fortune which God has blessed me with in as much peace as may be, and that I may have nothing of this world to incumber my thoughts on Eternity; I do make this my last will and testament Revoking all former wills by me made, and first, I resign my sould to God and my body to be interred-as for my tempral Estate I give and dispose as follows: I desire that all my just debts should be paid, Item I give to my Daughter MARY WINN and my Daughter in law ELIZABETH COX the upper part of my land to be devided from the lower part as follows befin at large box oak corner to the said Abraham Cox and John Birdwell and to run with a straight line to an oak in the lain between me and Mr. Seven French at the lower end of the apple orchard; I give to them dureing ther life at their Death to be equally devided amony there children; I also give to my daughter WINN two Negros that is Fany and Rachel. I also give my Daughter in law two Negros that is Lucey and Nancy. I give to them dureing ther natural lives and at there Deaths to be Equally devided among there children. Item I give to my son ZACHARIAH an ANN COX the other part of my land to be equally Devided between them at my wife's death I also give to my son ZACHARIAH three Negros that is Dick and Simon and Salley. Item I give to my Daughter ANN two Negros, Hannah and Garrard and which ever should die first ZACHARIAH or ANN the surviving one shall come in for the others part If they should have no lawful Heire; and if Boath of them should die without lawful Heire begotten of his or her body then it shall go to my Sons THOMAS and WILLIAM COX and MARY WINNS children. Item I give to my wife ELIZABETH COX three negros that is Mary and Jiney and Rose with the stock of every kind and Plantation Utentials and House furniture and that part of my land that I leve to ZAH and ANN Cox I give to my wife as long as she lives and at her death, the land and house furniture to be devided between ZACHARIAH and ANN COX and all the stock of every kind and plantation utentials and the three Negros with every thing in not bin disposed of to be devided between ZACH and ANN and ELIZABETH COX and MARY WINN and WILLIAM COX. Item I appoint my wife Exectrix and my son ZACHARIAH COX and my grandson JAMES COX Esecutors of this my last will and testament this I Declare to be my last will and testament in witness thereof I have set my hand and seal this first Day of Feberary one thousand Eight Hundred and three Signed sealed and acknowledged in the presance of I desire thay my son WILLIAM COX should have one of the three Negrows that is Rose at my wifes Death.
