First Time Excitement
by Barbara Philbrook

First time excitement is what we feel,
when for the first time we experience something with zeal.

The first time your child calls out to you,
or even their first smile, I remember each of those too.

The first trembling step each child takes.
The first personal present each lovingly makes.

The first day at school and the first part in a play.
I can still remember each in a special way.

The first ride on a bike wobbling till they fall.
Each memory is forever. I treasure them all.

The first dance they nervously attend,
and of course the first broken heart you help to mend.

The first glance on each of them as they wed.
The joy you felt as their vows they said.

The first glance at the grand babies and the cycle begins once more.
More precious memories to lovingly adore.

If we as sinners experience such joy in the firsts,
imagine God's joy as we discover He'll quench our thirsts.

The first time excitement must be something to see,
when God hears the first prayers said by you and me.
