Thomas SCHOOLER

   General Notes:

!Thomas was imported to Virginia by John Taliaferro of Rappohannack, Essex Co., Virginia, about June 1701 and took up 590 acres of land in 1728 in St. George Parish in Spotsylvania Co., Virginia. (Essex Co. became Spotsylvania Co., in 1721.) He probated his father's will in Caroline Co., Virginia in 1728. Before 1740 he served on Caroline Co., juries. On 19 March 1717 in Essex Co., Virginia Thomas failed to prosecute his accon. of debt against Catherine Mitchell and it was dismissed. The lawsuit between William Woodford and Thomas Schooler was dismissed also. In the will of Peter Bourn recorded in Essex Co., Virginia and probated 15 Nov 1720, Thomas Schooler is named as a witness. No relationship is mentioned, but speculation through the years has been that he was Thomas' father-in-law. On 20 May 1724 in Essex Co. it is ordered that Robert Williams pay Thomas Schooler for 2 days attend. In 1725-29 Thomas was paid for tobacco counting. At a Caroline Co., Virginia court held 12 June 1741, it was ordered that Thomas Schooler be exempted from the payment of Public and County levies on account of his age and infirmities. !LAND:On 7-8 Feb 1719-20 Essex Co., Virginia, Thomas witnessed a land sale. Thomas purchased 128 acres of land from Charles Talliaferro for ten pounds sterling in Essex Co., Virginia on 14 October 1726. Witnesses were John Battaile, John Spotsworth, and ______Harrison. Land was granted to him in Spotsylvania Co., Virginia, 28 September 1728 by George II. !DEATH:Will 1746-54 for Thomas Schooler names William and Kesiah as administrators on 10 February 1748. John was named as an heir-in-law. It has been assumed that this Kesiah could be his wife, but it could also be his daughter.
