General Notes:
!He went to California in 1852 during the "gold rush". He told of crossing the plains in a covered wagon when the Indians were on the war path. He said no one in the caravan of schooners was killed dur to the fact they guarded their camp constantly. Eli said the Indians had a queer habit of steeling sacks of flour and throwing the flour on the ground before riding off with the sacks. About 1870 Eli moved his family to Nevada, coming by train to Elko and taking the stage from there to Hamilton. He became engaged in the White Pine Co., mining excitement with the varied success of others. His daughter Elvira's husband Daniel A. Stinson, had the dairy in Hamilton and Eli Myers ran the milk route. When smallpox raged in the area in 1875, he arranged with his family to send the milk from the ranch to Newark Summit and he came into towna nd delivered it from house to house, never missing a house until the epidemic was over. He attributed his survival to liberal doses of quinine and whiskey! Eli returned to Agency at the time of his fathers death in 1878 and stayed there in order to be near his mother. She died in 1881 but he didn't return to Nevada until 1898. Batch #: 7208803, Sheet #: 17, Source Call #: 820280
