   General Notes:

!Charles spent his boyhood days in southern Idaho. He often told stories about the little brick school house and his boyhood pranks. He was very proud of his first job, that of busting bronks. Charles was very talented in music and could play any string instrument and often did. Later he learned to play the electric organ and played it daily. Yet he never had a music lesson in his life, this was a natural talent. During his early adult life he often played for dances with his family. He told of how he took a wooden bed stead and made a guitar out of it. He traded this for the automobile that he drove to Oregon. When he was 19 years old in 1924 he came to Oregon. In 1934 he and his first wife were in a fatal auto accident and he was left with a young daughter to raise. He went to work for the railroad as a fireman and later became an engineer. He enjoyed his work very much and was proud to be part of the engine service. Charles had many interests and was a self educated man.
