   General Notes:

!Grandma was a very down to earth, no nonsense type of person. She was so independent, living as a widow for appr. 30 years and taking care of herself for a very long time. She had a very meager childhood and used to tell stories about the very few toys she had. One of her favorites was an old quart jar. She raised a good family, helping to teach her children the value of good hard work. She didn't have much education, but in later years when her husband had his own logging operation, she kept the books for the business. In the early years, her husband was sometimes paid with sacks of beans and potatoes and that was the main part of their diet. My mother told stories of her grade school years when she had to take mashed bean sandwiches or fried potato sandwiches to school in her lunch.
