Will 357 The will of John Verlaye of Cranford

In the name of God amen, In the year of our Lord God 1546 and in the year of our Sovereign Lord Henry the Eighth by the grace of god of England France & Ireland, King, defender of the Faith and his in earth Supreme head of the Church of England and Ireland the 27th year of his reign. The 5th day of April I John Vyrleye of Cranford being whole of mind & good of remembrance and some part sick in body, make this my last will & testament in manner & form following. First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, our blessed Lady Saint Mary and to all the holy company of heaven & my body to be buried in the church yard of Saint John in Cranford

I bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough 1d.

Item to the high altar of Saint John to be prayed for 2d.

I do bequeath to Johan my daughter a bullock of 2 years "hold"

Item to Agnes my daughter a cow of 3 years "hold", a pot, a pan and a beehive

I do bequeath to Richard & Robert my sons a spit & 2 cupboards and a pan and a sheep called a theave to have between them to the longer liver and if the one die the other brother to have them. All the residue of my goods not bequeathed and my debts paid fully I give to Johan my wife whom I make my executrix and to do for my soul as she thinks best.

Will 305 The will of John Verley

In the name of God amen, the 7th day of July in the year of our Lord 1563, I John Verley of Grafton Underwood in the County of Northampton sick in body and whole in mind do make my last will and testament in manner and form following

First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my "creature" [creator] and redeemer and my body to be buried in the church yard of Grafton aforesaid

Item I constitute and ordain my wife Audrie Verley and Henry CASELAYNE my lawful executors that my debts being paid the rest of my goods, they to have, desiring them as my trust is in them, that they will see my children brought up charitable [charitably] as they shall think best, doing for me as I would they should do for me being witness
