In the 1850's, Lamson Ward came to Ollie,Iowa and bought land from the government. On May 10,1855, Isaac V. Carter bought 160 acres of this land and there the Carter Family settled. Isaac V. Carter met Elizabeth Baker on a wagon train. They were married and decided to homestead in Ollie. The land is northwest of Ollie. They built a log cabin and a schoolhouse. The school was used for church on Sundays. Elizabeth's family had holdings in the general area where the Rose Hill Church was later built.
