Ladybug Books and Resources

                   Ladybug Unit Resource Book

A comprehensive thematic unit (80-pages).  The activities incorporate all areas of the curriculum.  Blacklines and patterns are included in the book.  Two books are used to guide the activities:  The Very Grouchy Ladybug, Eric Carle and The Ladybug and Other Insects, by Scholastic Publications.

                                  LADYBUG UNIT ONLINE

The ladybug unit to download online is free!  It is available through School Express.  You may visit this site at:  http://www.schoolexpress.com.  If you register, you will be notified of the units available to download every few weeks.  Great site.  The content is for more advanced first grade students through third grade.  However, I use the material and ideas and dissect the content for my classroom.

All of the books viewed here are available through the Primary Teacher's Nook and Amazon.com.  Simply click the mouse arrow on the book cover.  This will provide a direct link to Amazon.  You can review and learn more about the book at that site.

Eric Carle's book is the foundation for my ladybug unit.  We read, write, discuss, act, and enjoy this story.  The math components for the unit involve adding aphids, counting ladybug spots, and telling time.

                           Ladybug's Birthday

This book is another wonderful foundation for classroom activities using literature. Scholastic publications makes a big book package for this book.  There are big books, individual books, blacklines, a teacher's guide, and a reader's theater/play for the students to perform based on this story.  The birthday theme can also be used as a birthday unit component.  Last year my students loved this book!   Read more about this book at:

There are many fiction and nonfiction books about ladybugs.  The books mentioned on this page I own, I have used, and I would recommend for K, 1, or 2 grades.
