Classroom Pictures
First Grade Ladybug Unit
These are our ladybug
hats.

The
Class Book
We made a class book about the story,
The Very
Grouchy Ladybug. Students worked in partners
for each section of the story. For their page, they
drew a picture and wrote about their particular
sequence in the story. The class books are kept
in a special box for children to read all year long.

The Ladybug Chart Pointer
Another one of my
treasures. This is a fly
swatter. An unusual find in the corner of a store
that I could not resist. It is one of many in my
collection of pointers. The kids use the pointer to
read charts, find words, and read the room.

Ladybug Facts Chart
* Each day we would read learn about
one aspect of the ladybug. The children
would then "retell" what they learned. We
would web the new information on the
paper chart. The writing is done as
an interactive and shared writing
experience. Mini-lessons in mechanics
were also presented during these
sessions. For group, partner, and/or
individual work, students would write
about their "ladybug fact for the day"
and add this page to their pocket book.

Reading Time With Miss Ladybug
The person reading the story about the Grouchy
bug is me. I often dress in costumes... fun to be
a kid. The ladybug costume was found at Target.
The store had several pool cover-ups for small
children with different animal heads. This cover-up
on me would only come across my shoulders in length.
However, with black pants, a red and black polka-dot
shirt, and voila.. you are now the ladybug. This one
even had antennae.
