LADYBUG CRAFT PROJECT
Ladybug Pins
Materials:
* Plastic Spoons
* Plaster of Paris
* Red and black tempra paint
* Google eyes (small)
* Paint brushes (medium and small for painting details)
* Spray gloss paint (can)
* Sand paper
* Pin backs (found in a craft store)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Mix the plaster of Paris with water. The directions should be on the container. However, I mix the water gradually to the plaster powder. Do NOT make the mixture too thick. Thin is better.
2. Dip the plastic spoons into the plaster of Paris mixture. I level the teaspoon so it is easier to make the surface smooth later.
3. Place the spoons with the plaster of Paris on wax paper. Let dry overnight.
4. Sand edges and surfaces to make smooth. A sand paper that looks like a screen works the best.
5. Have the children paint the ladybugs red. Leave the flat bottom without paint. Write their name/date on the back of the ladybug. Let dry.
6. Paint the dots and line on the ladybug the next day. Let dry.
7. Spray with clear gloss spray paint.
8. Glue the google eyes on the front. Glue the pin back on the flat part of the ladybug.
Here is a view of our ladybug pins with our origami flowers. We made this project during our ladybug unit in May with a Mother's Day project.
