From there, Mrs. Mack came with the children in a
steamboat to the mouth of the Sandy River. The
family traveled together to Clackamas County, where they
camped for some time on Abernathy Creek near Oregon
City.
William O. MACK selected 320 acres of land in

permanent Oregon home. The town of MACKSBURG
{named for this family} grew around this homestead.
There he built the first house and afterward a
schoolhouse**, where his children attended. He taught
the first school which was among the first in Clackamas
County. He lived there until 1878, when he moved to
Canby. Louisa M. MACK died at age 69 in Canby in 1895,
