Tyler loves animals and could
spend
his whole day watching them.
In town there is
a
park called Depot Park.
It has your assorted
swings and slides.
But best of all it has
ducks.
You see the park is actually behind town
at
the bottom of a hill.
It sets in a little
valley
with a large stream that runs through the
middle
On one side is the swings, slides and
such
On the other it has picnic tables and a
gazebo
This is Americana at its best
It
really
looks like Norman Rockwell came out designed the
town
himself
Sorry about ramblin on but you can read
about in a new section I just thought up.
I
will
call it Our Town
Anyway Tyler loves to come and
watch the ducks
We could sit for hours and feed them
Just
before
they flew south he mustered enough courage and
fed
one from his hand
He thought that this was so
neat
For awhile we could not go past the park
because he did'nt understand where the ducks
went
Until I told them they went to Grandpa
Petes.
Now he wants to go see the ducks, seeing
Grandpa
Pete will be a bonus.
Baby cows and piggies are high
on
his
list also
Just a few miles up the road past
the
new subdivision(Which is down wind from the dairy
farm)
There is a place called Cooks Dairy
farm
They sell all dairy products at the local
markets and party stores
As a matter of
fact,many
local establishments put out signs that say they
sell
Cooks dairy products and business actually
increases
Ok sorry back to the
story
Well
now let me see,Tyler loves to go down and look at
the
cows and pigs
There is no charge and you can
stay
for hours
No charge is the best part as much
as we
go there
They sell ice cream and you just
wander
around looking at cows and pigs
The kids see
the
animals while mom & dad try to keep the ice cream
off
their kids shirts and the cow patties off their
clothes
This in its self can prove to be a
challenging part of parenthood.
We often do
sample
the ice cream(Sample to the tune of 6 extra
pounds)
Tyler is just like daddy,he loves the
strawberry and mom prefers chocolate
Tylers
ice
cream has no problem finding its to the
ground....and
his shirt
Not to mention his pants,face,hands
and `
hair
And yes sometimes on the animals
In
that
barn tonight is a poor little piggie having
nightmares about being attacked by a strawberry
ice
cream cone
Is there a pig therapist out
there
Tyler will sit there and grunt at the
pigs(I
taught him that.
I thought it was neat.
For
some reason my wife did'nt)
Or he will moo to
the
cows and when they talk back
He will scream
with
laughter
I admit to joining in on the pig
grunting
and cow mooing
There is nothing like letting
out a
good pig grunt to ease your stress.
Come on go
ahead no one will you hear
It's alright go
ahead
Wooo easy now friend, your shaking the
walls
There now don't you feel
better.
Tyler also like's all marine life
though he has not mastered how to say squid
yet.
It comes out more pid,so we at first assumed
he wanted to pee.
So we would run him to the
bathroom.
Upon reaching in the bathroom,he would
look at us all puzzled as if saying squid was a
magical word that would swoop him to the
bathroom.
After much frustration and confusion on
our part and Tylers.
We finally knew that it was
squid while watching an ocean special on PBS and
finally putting 2 and 2 together. All them quick
dashes to the bathroom though have me ready for the
50 yard dash.
Alligators and fish are high up on
the list.
I can not tell you how hard it is to try
and explain to a 2 year why there is gators at
Grandpa Petes and Grandma Connie.
And we cannot
even scrounge up one baby gator here at home.
Good thing there is a zoo within driving distance.
The imagination of a 2 year old child is a powerful
thing
If one is not careful he too can get caught
up in the story that unfolds from a childs
mind.
Tyler's imagination has a bite with a reckoning
force that won't let go.
In the back bedroom where
the bed meets the corner of the wall, lives on any
given night a monster(What it looks I do not know),an
alligator or an elephant.
Now mind you that the
clearance of the bottom of the bed to the floor is
only about six inches high and you can barely squeeze
your hand in between the bed and the wall.
The
imagination of a child though knows no bounds and the
fun that one can have is endless.
Each night after
supper Tyler will grab my hand and say"Go dad"I will
reply "Where are we going Tyler" and his response is
always "Back there" pointing to the back
bedroom.
As we walk with caution to our
destination.
Tyler will whisper "Big alligator
daddy"Or whatever the creature of the night
is.
Upon reaching the door,Tyler will walk in
first and I will follow(No he does not go first
because I'm a big scaredy cat,he wants to go first
Really!).
Any way from here we can go two
ways.
The first is I will yell"Go away big
alligator"and the alligator will turn tail and
run.
Or more often then not the alligator will
chase us and we will turn tail and run.
Running
down the hall through the kitchen and into the living
room.
Where mom(My wife)will be trying to read in
peace(She never gets to).
Into her lap will go
Tyler with me right behind him.
Mom is by the way
the great protector.
This will usually go on for
about half hour or till my wife has had enough and
tells us both to behave.
The second varys only a
little in the fact that we both go into the
bedroom.
One of us will stick our hand behind the
bed and scream when our imaginary nemesis attack's
us.
Then we both run through the hallway and
kitchen and living room, well you know whats happens
after that.
After creature feature(My name for
this little roust about the house)we will settle down and move onto some sort of quieter game.
One that
ensures we have fun and mom has quiet.
This
little game came out of nowhere and it will be dearly missed when it is gone.
