The Real Grinch That Stole Christmas

Early one Saturday morning, I was all set.
John off to a workshop, leaving time for me to get

The house all ready to glimmer and shine
For once again it is Christmas time

Down came the boxes on the afternoon before,
with Joey and Tyler setting them on the floor

With Grandpa in charge, off the high shelf they came
For the boys and their Grandpa it was a fun game

For so many years I have had children around
So now I enjoy  decorating to a different musical sound.

As Celine, Neil and Barbra sang songs of Christmas joy,
I started the process of inspecting each ornament and toy.

With my new little tree, I thought this would be a simple chore,
Just add a few bells and ribbons to brighten the door.

So I began to unbox the ornaments for the tree
With each little bauble holding a special memory.

There were the ones from the girls' earlier days,
Little hand painted figures to which I gave praise.

Some newer ones I've collected over the years
Some bringing a smile, some bringing some tears.

So on to the lights that make the whole season glow,
And deciding where to hang them above or below.

But first I must check to make sure each will light
For each little bulb must be shiny and bright

Alas, one is not lighting as I plug in the set
So now to find the bulb that I need to replace it.

I know there was a little bag when I first purchased this set
But where was it I put it so I wouldn't forget?

I know it has to be somewhere because this is not the first time
I have had to waste precious moments that were supposed to be mine

It's not in the box where I thought it might be
So I look in some drawers for that light for the tree

Hooray I have found one and am ready to begin
When the grinch who really stole Christmas starts his evil grin.

For the bulb that I found, in this socket won't fit
So it's back to more looking before I can quit

Now I've wasted too much time in this searching process
So I give up and go into the bedroon to dress

Off to the store where the lights are all sold
No problem to find them for the string is not old

But to my surprise I find nothing that is right
So off to another store determined to keep Christmas bright

The traffic is awful this Saturday noon
Why aren't they home with their kids watching cartoons?

Now after three stores with no replacement to be found
I am too tired to care and just want to drop to the ground

For now that I know who the real Christmas grinch is
I buy new strings of lights and flash home in a whiz

Never again will I take off that little bag
Even if it makes one little branch sag.

For the true grinch of Christmas is the mean CEO
Who redesigns the light strings to make our tree glow

He smuggly gets richer as we all search in vain
For the little bag of replacements with which the string came

So to keep your holidays merry, don't ever remove
Under penalty of panic for the next year will prove

No minature lights are made the same every year
And we all are just bonuses to a good corporate year.
