From the Eyes of My Heart
From the eyes of my heart, who do I see?
A world filled with laughter, where happiness abounds?
No, I see people who are lonely, frustrated
and beaten, clear down to the ground..
With illness and the sadness of love given in vain
and tears on the ground, there forever to remain
Pain in so many faces I see everywhere.
Is nobody listening, does nobody care?
Where are the smiles I once used to see?
When life was so joyous and carefree for me?
I look in your face, oh no that can't be
The truth of the picture is a reflection of me.
Am I hurting people when I show no concern?
Nobody seems to listen, when I need my turn..
But wait, wait a minute, what's that I see?
That face in the mirror, it is really me.
If that is the reflection of the me that you see,
Can I expect smiles returned unto me?
No, I must look inward and begin to reflect
What can I offer to others I've met?
Me, I'm not special, I have no great gifts.
Just time filled with waste, remorse and regret
Now how can I change that and see it all clear?
For all who are closest and all that are dear.
How do I start to change the picture I see?
I can't force others happy to be.
Or is it enough when I open my heart
For others to see my most vulnerable part?
I've tried it before and been left in the dark
When people I trusted left me stumbling and alone.
But where is it written that all people will care
about the feelings I share with them, if I once more dare.
If I ever expect to see love in your eyes,
I first have to reflect it from the eyes of my heart.
The healing of past hurts can never begin
Unless I open my eyes, again from within
But can I still do that? the trusting and love?
When so much disappointment
Left me lonely and afraid
For fear is a force that within me stayed.
Now, many years older and wiser I hope
I reach out to you one more time
To offer the best
of this heart that is mine
Again I will look through the eyes of my heart
I'll look past your anger, your fears and your hurt
And in me you'll see that what ever you say
Will help me to understand you better each day
For I truly believe
if we chance it once more
We can become better people
Than ever before.
It takes only a moment
to make another smile
But the effects will last longer
than just for a while
And when it's all over
we'll feel happy as before.
when the reflection in your eyes
Is the same as in me
