JOHAN PHIFER

Johan Phifer was born in December of 1847 in Tennessee to John Phifer Sr. & Judah Hall.

(Johan was their only child.)

Johan married twice, first to Sarah Catherine Melton on Aug.5, 1870 in Benton Co., TN.

(NOTE: This marriage license was issued but never registered.) Sarah was born in 1850 in Tennessee to Chesterfield C. Melton and Mary Ann Holland. She died between 1873 and 1874.

1. Lula Phifer was born in 1873; she was living with her grandparents in the 1880 Benton Co., TN census.

Johan married his second wife, Martha Elizabeth Berry on April 28, 1874 in Benton Co., TN.

(NOTE: This marriage license was issued on that date but never registered.) Martha was born in Jan. of 1853 in Tennessee to Samuel & Elizabeth Berry.

(NOTE: She listed that eight had been born but only seven were living in the 1900 Census.)

1. Lou Aider was born in 1875 in Tennessee. She married Sion (Simon) J. Melton on Nov.22, 1891 in Benton Co., TN, by Frank P. Wheatley, JP.Sion was the son of Elijah Phifer & Araminta Warnick.
2. Jackson (Jack) Phifer was born in 1877 in Tennessee. He married Effie Levada Jordan before 1913. Jack died on Oct.17, 1949.
3. Mary Margaret Phifer was born in Jan. of 1880 in Tennessee. She married John C. (Swog) Farmer on Sept. 29, 1900 in Benton Co., TN, by Wm. H. Melton, JP.
4. Martha J. Phifer was born in March of 1884 in Tennessee. She was living at home in 1900, age 16.
5. Roena Phifer was born in Feb. of 1887 in Tennessee. She was living at home in 1900, age thirteen.
6. William Phifer was born in Dec. of 1891 in Tennessee. He was living at home in 1900, age nine.
7. Thomas Phifer was born in Nov. of 1894 in Tennessee. He was living at home in 1900, age five.
