John Phifer was born about 1815 in Kentucky. He was the son of John Phifer Sr. John Jr. was married twice; his first marriage was to Mary Ann Farmer on April 25, 1842 in Benton Co., TN, by Thomas L. Floyd, JP. Mary Ann was born on Jan.20, 1826 in Tennessee to George Washington Farmer & Katherine Harmon. She died on May 11, 1872; her burial was in the Phifer Cemetery in Benton Co., TN.

John Phifer Jr. married his second wife, Susan Elizabeth Gibson on April 6, 1878 in Benton Co., TN, by A.M.C. Gossett MG. Elizabeth was born in 1830 in Tennessee. John and Elizabeth had no children together.

John & Elizabeth appear in District #7 in the 1880 Benton Co., TN census. Elizabeth Gibson died on April 11, 1881, burial was in the Phifer Cemetery. John Phifer Jr. died on March 10, 1889; burial was in the Phifer Cemetery.

John Phifer Jr. & Mary Ann Farmer had seven children.

1. Thomas R. Phifer was born in 1845 in Tennessee. Thomas was married to Virginia N. (unknown). They are listed in the 1870 Benton Co., TN census. Nothing further is known about them after 1870. They do not appear in the Benton Co., TN 1880 census. Their marriage was not located in the Benton Co., TN marriages.
2. Margaret Phifer was born in 1847 in Tennessee. She was listed as single in the home of her parents until 1870. Nothing further is known at this time.
3. Alexander Lafayette Phifer was born on Jan.29, 1850 in Tennessee. He married Mary Ann Melton on Dec.4, 1871 in Benton Co., TN, by J.P. Lashlee JP. Mary was born on Oct.14, 1855 in Tennessee to Etheldred Melton & Mary A. Arnold. Alexander died on May 20, 1925 & Mary died on Jan.4, 1941; their burial was in the Phifer Cemetery in Benton Co., TN.
4. Victoria Phifer was born on Feb.15, 1853 in Tennessee. She was listed as single age 25 in the home of her father & stepmother in the 1880 Benton Co., TN census. She died on Aug.8, 1884, burial was in the Phifer Cemetery.
5. Mary Phifer was born in 1854 in Tennessee. She was listed as single in the home of her parents through 1870. Nothing further is known at this time.
6. Henry A. Phifer was born in 1857 in Tennessee. He married Mary C. Pierce on Dec.31, 1876 in Benton Co., TN by E. Holloman MG. Mary was born on Oct.5, 1854. Henry & his wife appear in the 1880 Benton Co., TN census. Henry died after 1900. The Volume I Benton Co., TN Cemetery book list he died on March 17, 1888. This is an error as they were both living in District 7, #54 in the 1900 Benton County census. Mary died on Oct.29, 1928; both are buried in the Phifer Cemetery. She listed in the 1900 census, she had 10 children born, 9 living.
7. Daniel Phifer was born in 1861 in Tennessee. He was listed as age 19 at home with his father & stepmother in the 1880 Benton Co., TN census. Nothing further is known at this time.
