LUMBEE INDIANS of NC:

1737. they were known as PEE DEE in SC

1887. Lumbee people built school, name:Croation Indian Normal School, now known as: Pembroke State University

1880. NC State returns citizenship rights back to Lumbee

1896. NC State recognizes "Croation Indians"

1913. NC changed tribe name from Croation to Cherokee Indians of Robeson

1924.the tribe petitioned for government to be reconized as ""SIOIN"

1952. tribe changed name back to Lumbee

1953. States change name from Cherokee back to Lumbee.

Places that they lived included, Penbroke NC Lumbee River, and most lived in the Pee Dee watershed area.

When I was researching, I noticed that their Chief was named Sioin,and they traveled throughout North Carolina,Tennessee, & South Carolina.
