These two chicks hatched in the spring of
2000 from a whiteface cobalt violet cock and a whieface pied creamino
hen. I was surprised (and had to take a second, and then a thrid look
before I believed my eyes) to find that they were zebra striped when
they began to feather out!

The younger chick had the same
markings.

The stripes are on each individual
feather, and form stipes that run the length of the wing, as you can
see in this picture.

And another view...

We will have to wait to see if they retain this
unusual coloration when tey molt in the fall.
