[803] This person is presumed living.
[1023] Grace Marmaduke Sharp, in her article, "The Marmaduke and Some AlliedFamilies", writes: "The first emigrant of the name, of whom we haverecord, was Richard, who presumably sailed from Hull, as Yorkshire hasmany records of the family at that time. He landed with CaptainChristopher Wormeley in Charles River County, Virginia, January 27,1638. (See Early Virginia Emigrants, 1623-66, by Greer.) The futureearly history of the family is in, and from Charles River. However, one writer says the Miles (Will, 1695), and his wife, Jane, camedirect from England. It is thought that he is a descendant of Richard. This family evidently helped to open the wilderness and make thiscountry. If records had not been destroyed, this could be tracedunbrokenly."
[1024] The will was proved August 27th, 1695. In it, he mentions Jane, hiswife, and son Christopher, less than sixteen years old. (Book 2, page32.)
