Growing up and living in Western Pennsylvania for 25 years, before moving to Maryland for employment, I grew up a Pirate and Steeler fan. The first baseball game I ever watched on T.V. as a child was the 7th game of the 1960 World Series when my neighborhood went frantic over Bill Mazeroski hitting his ninth inning World Series winning home run to defeat the heavily favored New York Yankees. From then on I was hooked on baseball. I was then fortunate enough to go to Three Rivers Stadium & see Game #4 of the 1979 World Series when Willie Stargell homered in a losing cause. The Bucs eventually came back & won that series in 7 games against the Orioles.

Speaking of number 9- Billy Mazeroski- the Greatest Defensive Second Baseman in the history of the game. . . it's about time he finally got his just due & was voted into the Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. Way overdue!

I also played baseball in organized leagues from Little League to American Legion ball. In 1971 as a Senior in high school I received the team's "M.V.P. Trophy" for leading the JEANNETTE JAYHAWKS in Hits, Doubles, RBI's and a .441 batting avg.

... And as for the Steelers with their 4 Super Bowl Championships in one decade, who in the area could not root for Chuck Noll, Terry Bradshaw, "Mean" Joe Greene, Lynn Swann, Franco Harris, Rocky Bleier, Mike Webster, John Stallworth, Jack Ham, Mel Blount & Jack Lambert? . . . and 26 years later Big Ben Roethlisberger, Jerome Bettis (the Bus), Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu & Joey Porter finally capture the elusive "One for the Thumb" for us Pittsburgh fans!
