For other blackmarket adoption information, see below. I am in the process of collecting information and links. Many in the state of Florida took babies to NY City and substituted dead NYC babies' birth certificates. Some ran maternity homes and worked with doctors and lawyers who "sold" babies. Some doctors made the b.c. in the adoptive parents names and there was never a legal adoption at all. These practices occurred between 1924 and 1978. Although Helen Tanos Hope was not "technically" in that category, many of her babies were sent out of state to be adopted. She has since died and a lot of her records have been lost or destroyed, but I recently received this message from a friend in Florida who read an article in the local paper and we want to relate it to you: To: Geministwo From: gwfarrell@worldnet.att.net (Judith Farrell) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message is for any birthparents and adoptees whose adoption was handled by Helen Tanos Hope in The Miami, Ft Lauderdale, central Florida areas. In 1994 some of Helen Tanos Hopes records were discovered in a dumpster in Davie, Florida. Helen Tanos Hope died in 1994 and it seems a relative of hers decided to "get rid" of the files. A business man discovered the files and contacted the police and the records were retrieved. A Broward County Judge, Richard Liss has assigned another Atty. to take Helen Tanos Hopes files. Her name is Linda McIntyre, 98 S.E. 6 Ave. Delray Beach, Florida 33483. Phone 954-344-0990. Helen Stanos Hope Registry If you would like more information on the above, please mail: Judith Farrell
