| Matthew was born in December of 1985, my first born child. His birth was uneventful and I had no reason to think that he wasn't perfectly normal. The MMR vaccine went into use at this time. That is the combination shot, the three in one of measles, mumps, and rubella. This vaccination is currently under review for it's safety and is in question. If you have a baby that is due an MMR vaccination, you need to go to Rep. Dan Burton's site and read what is going on with this. There are hundreds of parents, possibly thousands in the United States who believe the MMR caused their child's autism. It contains thirmerisol which is mercury and other impurities that may have severe neurological effects on your child. This shot does not have to be given as a combination shot and your child will have no risk factor if the vaccination is separated. Please educate yourself and do not rely on the good faith of the decision-making bodies. |
| It wasn't a gradual change that happened. It was an Invasion of the Body Snatchers experience. One day he looked the same but that's the only way I recognized him. He no longer made eye contact, spoke, sang, interacted......He screamed and cried and stayed awake and stomped and hid under mattresses and pillows and ate dirt. I desperately tried to find out what was happening to him but my pleas fell on deaf ears. Nobody nowhere would listen to my observations and intuition. I really don't think they knew or suspected autism could have a biological etiology. It was a general concensus that it was neurological and nothing really could be done. I had no thoughts that the vaccinations may have caused the changes. I never dreamt that metal toxins were being injected into my precious baby's blood stream. I thought good mothers kept their child's immunization records up-to-date and I was a very good mother! |
| At about the same time as he had his MMR, he lost his speech, he had an ear infection and an oral yeast infection. I wanted to believe that his behavior would change and he would just "grow out of it" but that didn't happen. He began to spin in circles and turn out lights and hide under pillows and cry a lot. He had night terrors and slept very little. I didn't have a clue what was happening. I begged for help. And I started down that awful road that brought me to a bottomless pit at 30 Months of age called Autism. I couldn't spell the word or define it, but I was grateful for a word. I thought I could overcome it if I just had the right word and knew what I was dealing with. Matty has great reasoning ability and can figure out how to get things he wants but his language skills are nonexistant as far as we can measure. He is beautiful and a wonderful gift. I am glad God saw fit to make me his mother. |
| I have been teaching school now for 22 years. Most of that time has been spent in my present Kindergarten position. Recently our school became the site for the early intervention Developmentally Delayed class. It is a joy for me to be able to receive these children in my class as mainstreamed and inclusion students. We have a Gateway Computer Lab directly across the hallway and have some really great learning programs the children use. I believe strongly in early intervention and expressing love to young children. By the way, Miss Marsha and her crew in the DD class are the greatest! I am in awe of them daily.
