




My Mom: Miss Missaukee at Mackinac
Artifacts from 1958
Faye saved all of the correspondence from this event. It's been
fascinating for me to look through it nearly 50 years later, and to
observe all the things that have changed: graphic design, advertising
slogans, postage stamps, telephone numbers, and mailing codes.
In these first examples below, note the mail codes (I don't know
whether that's really what they were called, but I bet they weren't
called ZIP codes):





The images below show not only some old mail codes, but also some
examples of old phone numbers. "TRinity" and "WOodward" are examples
of what I believe were called "exchanges"; you dialed the first two
letters, and then the five numbers.


Below is the business card for the legislator who represented
Missaukee County, among others. His telephone exchange was
GArden.

You already saw an Oldsmobile advertising slogan at the top;
here's another one below:

And finally, a postage stamp from 1958.
