TARKAN was born in 1972 in Alzey near Frankfurt. In the age of 15 his family, which until then had been living in Germany, decided to move back to Turkey and TARKAN moved also. He started his musical education in the field of classic music at the Music High School in Karamürsel. There he worked together with famous and succesfull Turkish composers. He continued this musical education in Istanbul. Already, in an age of 16 he performed in Turkish bars and clubs, to earn his pocket money.

Tarkan has became a very successful singer after that. If you go to Turkey, you will find his singles played everywhere, in discos, in the radios and even in Taxis! He was chosed to be the Best selling Middle East Artist for the year 1999, in the World Music Awards held in Monaco,France.

His current single "Simarik" (Spoiled) ended in France on the Top 3 of the sales charts and in Belgium it raised even to #1 and it was published in Germany by MOTOR MUSIC on the 11th of January '99. The Album followed on the 1st of February '99.
