Teshuvah - Turning Away, Returning Again

The concept of teshuvah is difficult to translate directly into English. An easy translation is repentance, but the Jewish concept of teshuvah is far more all-encompassing. We usually speak of doing teshuvah, implying that our repentance is an active process and requires positive action. It is not enough to feel sorry for what we have done wrong, we must also act to make things right again.

There is also the implication of turning in the Hebrew word teshuvah. We must turn away from our sins; we must return to Torah for guidance on how to live righteously.
