BERRY PATCH

The growing method is used outdoors in the Carolinas. As a result, there are a number of suppliers in that area. The plants I have been working with cost $38.50 for 500 plus shipping. The variety is known as Chandler. I have heard that Spain is also a good source of strawberries.

The greenhouse method produces lots of good looking sweet fruit very early in the season. It is not commonly used in the midwest. Apparently, most strawberry farmers in this area are unaware of its possibilities.

If there are details about my strawberry gardening hobby that have not been answered sufficiently in this letter, visitors to this web site are welcome to contact me via e-mail by clicking on my signature.

This letter was written back in 1998. Frank's experiments with berries grown under plastic were very successful. But, living on the side of a hill, with not much flat land available for gardening, he has converted his strawberry patch into a vineyard. After succeeding so well with the berries, he now has become a vintner.
