Husband's Notes
The Will of John Wood In the name of God amen the twenty third day of January one thousand Seven hundred and thirty two three John Wood of Little Compton in ye County of Briftol and Province of Massachufitz ???? in New England yeomanbeing of perfect mind and memmory thanks be to God: therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to Dye, Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Teftament, that is to say prinorpally and first of all I give and Recomend my Soul into the ??? of God that gave it; and my body I Recomend to the Earth to be buried in Decent Chriftian Buriel at the Direction of my Executer nothing doubting but at the general Ressurection I shall repive the Same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching teh wordly Estate where with it hath pleased God to Blefs me in this life I give, Demife and Dispofe of the Same in ye following manner and form. I give and bequeth unto my well beloved wife Mary and to her Dispofoal my best bed and furniture and ten pounds in Publick bills of Credit yearly During her natural life. I give her alfo During her widow hood and while she Bearez my name the ufe and benifet of my New Houfe Joining the East end of my old Houfe and all my houfehold goods and my negro named Rofe and two good cows out of my stock to be kept upon my farme winter and sumor. alfo I give Eight Score pound of Porke and Eight Score pound of Beefe, ten gallons of molasis, twenty pounds of tallow, ten bufhels of Indian Corn and ten cord of good fire wood Cut and Carted to her Dore yearly during her widow hood also my will is that she have the garding which is to the Southward of my dwelling houfe and a horfe to Ride when she hath a mind to Ride and Lyberty to keep a Suttable quantity of foul for her own ufe. al thofe things above mentioned for my wife are to be found or provided by me son Joseph Wood his heirs, Executors, or adminiftrators out of what IShall hereafter give him. but my will is that if my wife marry again that then this alowance During her widowhood shall Seass, and that She Shall have no further alowance out of my estate than the ten pounds a year during her natural life, and the bed and furniture before mentioned I would have it understood that what I have given her is Infted of her thirds and in Confideration of her Dowery in my estate, and that she have no demand there upon. Item I give and Bequeath unto my beloved Son Joseph Wood to him his heirs, Executors and assigns for Ever whom I alfo Constitute and ordain my sole Executor all my Estate in Little Compton both real and Personal Excepting what I have already given away in this my Will. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Mary wife of Thomas Baily beside what I have already given her thirty pounds in Publick Bills of Credit to be paid her by my Executor one year after my deceafe and one third part of my houfe hold goods after my wives deceafe or widow hood. Item I give and Bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Dorothy Wife of Jofaph Roggers befides what I have already given her, two hundred pounds in Publick Bills of Credit to be paid her by my Executor ( ) years after my deceafe and one third part of my houfe hold goods after my wives deceafe or Widowhood. Goes on to name granddaughters Peck.
