Husband's Notes
John was also a minister of a United Brethern Church in Illinois. He came to Illinois in 1847. From[UL::UL] History of the Shuey Family[UL::UL] by D.B Shuey John P. Shuey was born July 16th 1816. Embraced religion in his 17th year, and connected himself with the United Brethern Church. He married Elizabeth B. Grass February 12, 1835, and has four children, viz: Josiah G., William R., Alma Maria, and John R.. He entered the ministry of the United Brethern Church in 1837 and has since filled many stations both as a presiding Elder and a circuit preacher, and has devoted nearly his whole life to the active work of the ministry. In 1862 he entered the servive of the United States in the late Rebellion as Chaplain of the 123rd Regiment Illinois Volunteers. For the last four years he has been engaged in the merchantile business. He lives at Westfield, Coles County, Illinois.
