Husband's NotesIllinois Volunteers and served three years. He was in the Battle of Perryville, Chicamauga and other severe fights. It was at the battle of Selma that Mr. Snyder accidentally picked up in the yard of the court house an envelope containing a document printed on silk. This was the proclamation of Andrew Jackson in referance to the attempts of South Carolina to nullify the tariff legislatio of Congress. The care with which he afterward treasured this relic indicated not simply that it was a curiosity but that it embodied the principles for which he was fighting, and for that reason he always honored the memory of President Jackson. Mr. Snyder was twice married. His first wife was Rebecca Allen to whom he was married before the war. To this union was born two children. Parmellia who became the wife of James Walters and Jacob Ira who lives in Edgar County. His last wife was Mrs. Jane Myers a half sister to Mr. Bob Gleen, and the children of this marriage now living are Mrs. John Sharp who lives south of Casey, Miss Renee Snyder and William and Nehemiah Snyder. He also left three sisters. Mrs A J Monoham, Mrs. Margaret Mitchell, and Mrs Mary E. Gilbert. When the character of Mr Snyder is described, It is to say all that can be said about any good man. He was a kind and genial neighbor, a good citizen who loved his family, his friends and his country. He received a pension of 12.00 a month. Record shows last name spelled SNIDER
