In 1789, James was voted to the U.S. House of Representatives. He married Dolley Todd on September 15, 1794. In 1801, he was appointed Secretary of State. 1808 was the year James Madison was elected President of the United States of America. In 1812, James recommended war with Britain. He was also re-elected. In 1829, he served at the Virginia Constitutional Convention. On June 28th, 1836, James Madison died at his estate Montpeliar.
