Orange County

Orange County was formed in 1752 from Bladen, Granville and Johnston Counties. The county seat is Hillsboro. The Register of Deeds has birth and death records from 1913, marriage and land records from 1754, divorce records from 1869, probate records from 1756 and civil court records from 1865. The Courthouse burned in 1789.

Joseph D. Hughes

The Harold Recorder, June 14, 1844

Died, in this county, on the 28th ultimo, Joseph D. Hughes, esq., aged about 60 years. He had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for about forty years, and an Elder about twenty. He died as he had lived, trusting in his savior.
